Go-To Gang Member: Cynthia McGough

It takes thousands of volunteers to help Habitat Birmingham reach their goal of providing decent and affordable housing for many families each year. One volunteer, in particular, goes above and beyond the normal call to service. Cynthia McGough can be found at a Habitat construction site nearly every Saturday. Cynthia volunteers very regularly with her church, Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church, and with students from Vestavia Hills High School’s Habitat Service Club. She transports youth volunteers to the work sites each Saturday. Cynthia is also a Women Build Diva that helps build, teach, and empower women on our annual Women Build project. Cynthia serves as a member of “The Go-To Gang” – a group of committed Habitat volunteers that build regularly and assists the Habitat Construction team with volunteers on the worksites. Cynthia has become quite skilled and selflessly provides leadership, instruction, and supervision to the other volunteers at the worksites. Cynthia contributes countless hours building Habitat homes for partner families and teaching and leading volunteers at the construction sites, and as if that wasn’t enough, she regularly advocates for Habitat, recruits other volunteers to help further the mission, and serves on the Habitat Board of Directors and Advisory Board. Cynthia chooses to volunteer with Habitat because she loves to work on the homes, she believes in the mission, and she especially enjoys meeting and interacting with all the great people. Cynthia is a beautiful example of a servant’s heart and a true role model in our community. Her generous gifts of time, energy, and service will continue to leave a lasting impact on Habitat Birmingham and the many volunteers and homeowners she serves alongside in the community. Cynthia is a true Habitat Hero; her commitment to service is inspiring. It is only with the unwavering support of our thousands of volunteers who put our mission into action every day, that the dream of eliminating poverty housing can become a reality. So to Cynthia, and the rest of our wonderful Habitat volunteers, thank you always.
